Summer inspiration!

August is almost over but here is a little echo of summer inspired creations

Agosto casi se va, pero aqui os dejo un pequeño eco de creaciones inspiradas por el verano

Bañista. Muñeca de Tilda.

                                             

I had this sea-themed fabric for a while and wasn´t quite sure what to do with it, so when Alicia asked me to make Paula a bag for the pool, it finally found its purpose.  I combined it with another sea-critter fabric, bright orange for the inside and she is now a happy little swimmer with a  gorgeous bag :)

Tenía esta tela infantil de motivos marinos desde hace un par de años y no estaba muy segura qué hacer con ella, asi que me vino perfecta cuando Alicia me pidió una bolsa de piscina para Paulita. La combiné con otra tela de bichitos del mar, un naranja vivo para el interior, y dos lazos en los laterales para variar el tamaño, y listo. La está utilizando mucho :)

This year I surprised Paula with a happy summer dress for her 2nd birthday. Once again the fabric was the inspiration and then I found a quick and easy pattern in one of Marga´s japanese sewing books and there you go, a pink princess!

Este año sorprendí a Paula con un vestidito para su segundo cumple. Una vez más, todo empezó por enamorarme de la tela y después encontré un patron rápido y facilito en uno de los libros japoneses de Marga y ya está, una princesita rosa!  

And my summer sewing trio is completed by these fashionable reversible sun hats.  I found the pattern at Martha Stewart´s web page ( http://www.marthastewart.com/907171/reversible-hat ) and went crazy.  I have made a whole bunch of them, here you can see mine and the ones I made for my fashionable gorgeous nieces.

Lo ultimo de mi trio veraniego de coser son estas gorras reversibles maravillosas.  Encontré el patron en la pagina de Martha Stewart (link en la barra lateral) y he hecho un montón. Aqui os presento la mia y las de mis guapisimas, esplendidas sobrinitas.

                                                    

Rocks and sea shells found on the beaches of Greece have been another great source of fun. The actual shape of the rocks is what gives me the idea for what to paint on them: an octopus, a swimming fish or a traditional greek evil eye.
Piedras y conchas encontradas en las playas de Grecia han sido otra fuente de diversion. La forma de las propias piedras me va dando la idea de lo que pintar encima: un pulpo, un pez nadando o el tradicional ojo griego.

 

And then I made this necklace.  I know there is some sort of tool to make holes, but since I don´t have it, I used shells that naturally had a hole in them.  Very simple, but it looks great with a summer outfit (note my tie-dye T-shirt, presented in a previous post :)
Y luego hice este collar.  Sé que existe algun aparato para hacer agujeros pero como no lo tengo he elegido conchas que tenian naturalmente un agujero.  Es muy sencillo pero queda genial puesto en verano (notad mi camiseta tie-dye, presentada en un post anterior :)




Finally, this is a wooden tray I bought unpainted and unvarnished. The design I painted on it I copied from the photo of a needle-point cushion I saw in a magazine. I call it craft fusion, haha!
Por ultimo, esta es una bandeja de madera natural ( encontrada en el bazar chino) sobre la cual copié el diseño de un cojin de punto de cruz que vi en una revista.  Eso si que es fusión de medios!

I leave you with the works of the real artist in the family, my mother. Among the many other things she makes (and I will be showing you) are these ships, made out of driftwood, shells and other shore findings of hers. The first one she gave me as a present and lives in our beach apartment and the other two she made this summer for her twin grandsons with the material they found together.

Os dejo con las obras de la verdadera artista en la familia, mi madre. Entre las muchas cosas que hace (y os voy a ir enseñando) son estos barcos, hechos de trozos de madera, conchas y otros hallazgos suyos de la playa. El primero me lo regaló hace unos años y los otros dos los hizo este verano para sus nietos mellizos, con lo que encontraron juntos.
