Come what May

Mayo! que mes más bonito. Ya termina el frío y los jerséis, hay flores por todos lados y el verano está cada vez más cerca... En Madrid hemos tenido primavera de verdad este año así que de todo lo anterior, solo hemos tenido las flores :) Pero hace unos días que ya ha salido el sol y todo parece mejor.

Cuatro cositas muy distintas para celebrar la primavera: mariposas de origami, un bolso con rosas y ganchillo, una betty doll con carácter y un bizcocho de fresa.

May is a lovely month, no more cold, no more coats, flowers everywhere! Spring is lasting well into May this year in Madrid, so although we have been enjoying the flowers for a while, it´s only been a week we got rid of our overcoats :)

Four very different things I made to celebrate spring: origami butterflies, a bag with roses (and butterflies), a betty doll with an attitude and a strawberry cake. Yum.

El otro día que fui a clase de patchwork, Marga tenia hecha una mariposa de origami, cosa que enseguida necesité hacer con mi propia combinación de telas, of course. Una la he hecho broche y la otra posa encima de la lampara de mi mesa de trabajo.

Marga showed me how to make these origami butterflies, I just had to figure out my own combinations of fabric, and voilá! One I made into a pin and the other one has settled on top of my desk lamp at my work table.

And also at Marga´s patchwork workshop, I discovered some magazines even she had forgotten she had: Mollie makes. It's awesome!  It´s full of crafty ideas! You can find the link to their web page on the sidebar under Favorites. 

One issue had these dolls by Ellie Bond I just had to make...immediately. So here she is. Her name is Shirley. She hangs out next to me at my work table.

En una antigua venían estas muñecas de Ellie Bond que tuve que hacer inmediatamente! Os presento a Shirley que ha encontrado su sitio al lado de mi mesa.

Esta tela la compré hace por lo menos un año porque me gustaba mucho su color vaquero junto con las rosas.  Y luego tenia un trozo de ganchillo con mariposas y pensé que combinaban bien, estilo boho chic. Asi que me inventé este bolso y voy así de conjuntada :)

I bought this fabric at least a year ago because I loved its denim blue as a background to the roses.  And then I also had a crochet strip with butterflies and I thought they´d combine well in a boho chic bag.  So there it is and, of course, with a matching outfit.

And finally...the strawberry cake.  Got a whole bunch of strawberries, they are in season now, the ones that come from Huelva in the south of Spain are amazing, but only last a couple of days.  So this morning I made this simple strawberry cake from a recipe I have from some back issue of Martha Stewart´s Living magazine.  It´s really easy and incredibly tasty, excellent with a cup of coffee or whipped cream if you are feeling decadent. Needless to say, by evening there was none left. You can find the recipe in the sidebar.

Y el bizcocho de fresas. Las de Huelva increíbles, están de temporada, pero como están a su punto justo aguantan dos días. Así que esta mañana hice este bizcocho con una receta que tengo de la revista americana Living de Martha Stewart.  Es muy fácil y sabrosa, con un café o con nata según gustos.  En mi casa por la tarde ya no quedaba nada:) Tienes la receta en el lateral de al pagina donde pone  Recipes.
