In Living Colour

Que complicado está siendo el fin de curso! Demasiadas cosas de que ocuparse y preocuparse, y ni el tiempo se decide...Después de una semana de tiempo veraniego, aquí estamos otra vez con la chaquetita puesta. Necesitaba urgentemente hacer algo, así que empecé experimentando con tintes. 

La idea empezó por una colección de blondas de ganchillo encontradas en el pueblo que pedían a gritos ser recicladas.  Pero un barreño entero de tinte no lo podía gastar solo en un par de blondas así que rápidamente me metí en Internet a ver como se hacen las camisetas tie dye y resulta que es muy fácil.

La prueba la hice con el verde pistacho y aquí está la primera camiseta, que la hizo Nicolás enseguida suya. Exitus!

                                               

I am really struggling through the end of the school year, way too many things to be occupied with and preoccupied about, and, worse, after a brief week of warm weather, the temperatures dropped again.  I really needed to keep my spirits up and summer oriented, so I started experimenting with dyes.  

The whole thing occured to me when I discovered a stash of crochet doilies at the village house that were just begging to be recycled (upcycled?).  But when I got down to it, a whole bucket of dye for a couple of doilies seemed a waste so I quickly researched how to tie-dye T-shirts.  And it´s really easy!

So the first colour was green, Nicolas loved the T-shirt and kept it- though I had made it for myself. Success!

So the next time I had a moment for me, myself and I, I got busy... The technique is quite simple: scrunch in the middle, start twisting and when you get a tight spiral you secure it with elastic bands and submerge it into the dye (following the instructions on the box)

Asi que en el momento que tuve la oportunidad me puse manos a la obra.  La técnica es sencilla: pinchando en el centro de la camiseta, empiezas a enrollarla formando una espiral que luego atas con bandas elásticas. Solo falta sumergirlas en el tinte siguiendo las instrucciones del envase.

Y claro, mi siguiente cliente fue Andrés, el azul electrico salió impresionante, no se la quita.

Of course, the second one went for Andrés, the electric blue turned out the best, I have to wrestle it off him to wash.

                                         

And then Olivia happened to see them, and started bugging her mother for dyes to make one, so I surprised her, and made her an orange one. I received a whole bunch of happy emoticons in return!

 Y Olivia vio las camisetas y empezó a darle la lata a su madre para que las hicieran, así que le sorprendí y le hice una en naranja. Recibi un monton de emoticonos felices después :)

                                 

Y ya que estaba, hice para sobrinos y sobrinas y aquí está mi mini factoria de camisetas, jaja!
So, since I had started, I went on to make T-shirts for all my nephews and nieces turning this into a mini factory!

                                               

And what happened with the crochet doilies, you may ask...Well, they turned out pretty funky! I hope my grandchildren have a laugh when they find those stashed away somewhere! In the meantime, they are perfect turned into a table runner for my modern rustic kitchen.

Y las blondas? Pues, me han salido graciosas, espero que mis nietos se ríen cuando las encuentran por algún lado!  Mientras tanto perfectas transformadas en camino de mesa para mi cocina neo-rustica :)

Y estos días, para mantenerse con al temática, apareció este arco iris por la ventana de mi cocina.
