Spring and Easter festivities

April´s here, Easter came and went in the western world but is yet to come in orthodox Greece.  So, I pick a spot between the two this year to show and tell about all things Easter...

Ya estamos en abril, semana santa ya pasó, pero el Pascua ortodoxo está por llegar, así que elijo un momento entre los dos para hablar de ello...

Antes de nada, aquí el increíble tono de AZUL que nos ofreció el cielo de Toledo estos dias!

Before I get to that, this is the amazing shade of BLUE the Toledo sky offered us at dusk the days we spent there.  The Alcazar on the left and a full moon rising over our patio on the right.

                                                         

Color que yo coloqué en el interior del neceser que hice para el bolso con la tela de pensamientos del equilter.  

And of course this was the blue I chose for the inside of the small carry-all I made for my purse with the flower fabric I had from equilter...

Y semana santa sin torrijas no se entiende, aquí descansan encima de la gallina que habíamos hecho en clase de patch hace unos años. 

This is the traditional Easter sweet in Spain, called Torrijas, which is basically a more elaborate version of french toast. The milk used is infused with lemon peel, a stick of cinnamon, and you may also add  a bit of sweet wine. The place mat is a happy spring chicken I made a few years back.

          

The Greek counterpart is Tsoureki. It´s a brioche, traditionally in the shape of a plaid and with a red egg in it.These I made with the help of my sons and the recipe my mom sent me, of Χρύσα Παραδείση, who has written the bible of Greek cuisine. 

En Grecia, el bollo de Pascua se llama Tsoureki. Estos los hice con la ayuda de mis hijos y según la receta de Chrisa Paradisi, la Simone Ortega griega, que me mandó mi madre.

                 

And finally here is another thing I love doing, table-setting! A lovely spring set up for an Easter lunch: fresh flowers, baskets of red eggs, flower napkin holders Cristina got for me, the dragonfly/butterfly plates Magdalena painted for me, and the dragonfly table runner my mom crocheted together as per my design!

Y por ultimo, otra cosa que me encanta hacer es poner mesas.  Esta, perfecta para la comida de Pascua: flores frescas, cestitas de huevos rojos-tradicionales en Grecia-los servilleteros de flores de fieltro que me regaló Cristina, la vajilla de libélulas y mariposas que me pintó Magdalena y el mantel de libélulas con el ganchillo de colores que me hizo mi madre, según mi diseño.
